Alone with its lanterns extinguished, the Arctic ship "Signalhorn" lay in the middle of the sea. It had been nine hard days, but on the way home all the hard work had been forgotten.

On the Vesterisen voyage in 1960, the Arctic ship "Signalhorn" caught 6273 seals. Looking beyond the era of large shoals, this is still a record for the number of animals on a voyage from the Vesterisen.

"Signalhorn" with skipper Bjarte Brandal departed Brandal on March 14th.

On board there is a crew of 18, they have bunkered 45,000 liters of fuel, and provisions for two months. They are experienced trappers, Birger Brandal is the first gunner and Odd Eiken is the second gunner.
