Moscow, May 6, 1926. The Soviet Union adopted a new policy for sovereignty over Arctic territories. This policy implies Soviet sovereignty over Franz Josef Land. It challenges important Norwegian commercial interests as well as the Norwegian view of the international legal practice of annexing unclaimed land.

Friday, March 20 at 7:00 PM is a new Polar Evening at the Ishavsmuseet, and this time we will be visited by Hermann Gran who will tell us about his father, Trygve Gran.
Trygve Gran once participated in Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctica Expedition 1910–13 in the race with Roald Amundsen to be the first to reach the South Pole.
Sunday, March 8th, 13-17pm, there will be a Sunday dinner at the Ishavsmuseet. Large buffet with hot and cold dishes, dessert and coffee, NOK 350. We honor all strong women on Women's Day, and show the documentary film Ishavskjerringa from 2012 in the conference hall at 13.00pm and 15.00pm.
Arne Johan Nilsen, author and historian, will be giving a lecture at the Ishavsmuseet on Friday, February 20. Nilsen's lecture will be about one of the least known actions carried out by the working class, but also about historical whaling and whaling as it is conducted today. We will also hear the story of Helle, who is currently engaged in whaling.

Friday, November 21st at 7:00 PM, Svalbard veteran Birger Amundsen will come to the Ishavsmuseet to give a lecture about the political game over Svalbard. Serving of Arctic char after the lecture.

New Polar Evening at the Ishavsmuseet, the glasnost period in Svalbard.
Svalbard and the glasnost period are the theme at Ishavsmuseet Aarvak during the polar evening on September 12th at 7:00 PM.
Tor Ole Ree (63) from Verdal was a journalist and editor at Svalbardposten when glasnost swept optimistically across the Arctic archipelago, which is visiting the Ishavsmuseet this day.

Book launch and lecture by Ottar Olsen at Ishavsmuseet on June 15th at 2:00 p.m. Serving of Arctic char with side dishes in the museum café from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In 2006, "Minna" set off from the quay in Brandal with a course for "Eirik Raudes Land" in Northeast Greenland. The trip gave us a taste for more and in 2008 we set off, this time with "Hagbart Waage", on a trip around Svalbard. In 2013, the trip went to Southeast Greenland, via Iceland and the Faroe Islands, also this time with "Hagbart Waage". All expeditions organized by Ole Chr. Røren.
