Arctic evening October 20

True to tradition, there will also be an Arctic Ocean evening this year in connection with the Hareidsstemna.

This year we were lucky enough to have Ulf Prytz visit us with a lecture – Sailing to North Svalbard.

With his 40-foot boat ISIS, Ulf sailed from Oslo to the drift ice edge north of Nordaustlandet in Svalbard in the summer of 2009. A magnificent voyage along the Norwegian coast, across the Barents Sea with Bjørnøya to Spitsbergen where they made beaching trips in Hornsund, Bellsund, Isfjorden with Longyearbyen, Kongsfjorden, Magdallenafjorden, Raudfjorden and Sorgfjorden before crossing up to Sjuøyane.

Ulf Prytz has had a very adventurous life. On foot, on skis and as a climber. He started the Nordnorsk Klatreskole and was the tourism manager on Kilimanjaro. He was a pioneer with the company "Ulf Prytz Adventure Travel" and a driving force in the development of adventure tourism in Svalbard, where he has, among other things, had both the old MS Polarstar and the new MV Polar Star on charter. Ulf has also published the book "Around the World - On the wild side" with some of his best pictures and stories from 40 years as an adventurer.

After receiving a serious illness diagnosis, Ulf took up sailing and bought a Hallberg-Rassy in the winter of 2007. Sailing to Svalbard on his own keel was a dream that was realized two years later.

Otherwise in the program we have musical performances by Ann Katrin Barstad and Ronald Øvrelid. Harald Knutsen talks about a 100-year memory – the wintering expedition with 7th June to Nordaust-Greenland in 1909-1910. The Arctic Evening starts at 7:00 PM.
