Arctic Ocean evening with Stein P. Aasheim
In the footsteps of Amundsen 100 years later.
Ishavsmuseet Wednesday 17 October at 7:00 PM
Stein Peter Aasheim is an author, photographer and hiker. Aasheim is known from several expeditions in the Himalayas (the Trango expedition in 1984 and the first Norwegian ascent of Mount Everest in 1985), cycling in the Sahara, hiking in New Guinea, horseback riding in Mongolia, a series of ski tours in Svalbard, Greenland, Siberia and the Gobi, and canoe trips in Tasmania, around Svalbard and on the Nahanni River in the Yukon. He currently resides in Isfjorden.
He was part of an expedition to the South Pole from October 2011, together with Vegard Ulvang, Harald Dag Jølle and Jan-Gunnar Winther. The expedition followed the same route as Roald Amundsen's expedition in 1911-12 and aimed to reach the pole 100 years after Amundsen.
Stein P. Aasheim will give a lecture at the annual Ishavskvelden in Hareidsstemna. Also on the program this year are Gollj and Gråstein, who still have high quality, a wide repertoire and humor. Atle Gjerde has composed a song for Aarvak's 100th anniversary, and will perform it for us. There will be a coffee and chat break in the familiar style.
