Cultural heritage walk: Legend and true story in Brandal

Cultural Heritage Day 2011 is Sunday, September 11. This is being marked by the Ishavsmuseet with a village walk around Brandal. Harald Knutsen will guide us safely around Brandal on a trail of approximately 1,5 hours.

Outer BrandalMeet at the Ishavsmuseet at 1:00 PM. The tour goes out through the center of Brandal, to old and new cultural monuments, from the time when the village had both a bakery, a café and a butcher, via older industries such as the guano mill at the end of the 19th century, and even older, Futen's liquor distillery. All this interspersed with legends and true history from the village, such as the troll in Bondebakkane. Legend or true history? After the walk, there will be a sale of Sunday dinner at the museum, meatballs with side dishes, and coffee and cakes.

Cultural Heritage Day is part of the European Heritage Days. At the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Culture, the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Day was first celebrated in 1993, and has been a permanent annual event since 1996.
