Polar evening January 17th – Amundsen's Pass

For almost ten years, he has examined images, documents and other finds, which have provided new insight into Amundsen's life, the people around him and the world they lived in. The rediscovery of the passport has become a focal point for several of the major discoveries in recent years.

Roald Amundsen used his last passport on several journeys, but when he left home for the last time in the summer of 1928, he left it at home.
Almost 100 years later, it is through the things he left behind that we can understand history. Amundsen's last passport is no longer a valid travel document, but an important piece in the big picture of Roald Amundsen - a piece that has not found its place until now.
In 2024, Anders Bache published the book Amundsens passport, which describes Amundsen's last travels, until he closed the door to his home and set out on the expedition from which he never returned. The lecture at the Ishavsmuseet on January 17 is based on the book.
After the lecture, dinner will be served and this time there is clipfish with good accompaniments on the menu.
