Polar evening with lectures and "cod meal" on Friday, March 15th at 7:00 PM:
"Towards the South Pole in Amundsen's footsteps"
Jan Sverre Sivertsen (Sivert) will be visiting the Ishavsmuseet with lectures, photos, films and presentations next Friday. In 2017/2018, Sivertsen and his partner Astrid Furholt followed Roald Amundsen's original South Pole route from 1911.
Sivert and his partner set off on a 1400 km journey on the world's highest, coldest and windiest continent. He wanted to help the first woman to walk the route. At the Ishavsmuseet this Friday you will hear Sivert's own account of a historic expedition, the stormy weather that changed the plans along the way, his thoughts when things turned out the worst, the race against time and the crazy nature experiences that stood in stark contrast to the days when everything seemed hopeless. Pictures, films and a twinkle in the eye make this a lecture for everyone!
Have lived in Svalbard for 12 years. Sivert is a man who has been out in the cold, snow and ice a lot. He has lived in Svalbard for 12 years where he has a background as both a guide and CEO (Spitsbergen Travel), as assistant director and tourism manager at Innovation Norway, head of a consulting company and several years as an independent consultant. Sivert takes advantage of every opportunity to get out on a trip himself, and has been to the South Pole, all over Svalbard and in Norway's national parks. He is an authorized Svalbard guide and has been active in the rescue service on the archipelago.
Real, honest and personal are the keywords for Sivert's fascinating lecture about an impressive expedition to the South Pole! He is a brilliant storyteller, and offers himself as he takes us on his demanding expedition to the South Pole.
In 2011, Sivertsen also participated in an expedition to the South Pole where 6 selected people kited the last 220 km towards the pole, and participated in the 100th anniversary of Amundsen's journey to the South Pole in 1911.
After Sivert's lecture, there will be a "cod feast" at the Ishavsmuseet with fresh cod, fish soup, liver and roe. Registration at the museum for dinner.
