Ragnar Thorset – Lived life

Ragnar Thorseth is an adventurer and expedition leader. He is a journalist and a communicator. And he is a Sunnmøring and a Norwegian. All of this has shaped Ragnar Thorseth into the life and dream that are presented here.

Many people know that Roald Amundsen flew over the North Pole with Umberto Nobile in 1926. But fewer people remember the name of the first Norwegian to reach the North Pole on the sea ice and set foot on the pole itself. It was Ragnar Thorseth who did it.

It is the scope of Ragnar Thorseth's life journey that is what distinguishes him as a person and an adventurer. As a young man, he rowed alone across the North Sea. 75 years after Roald Amundsen, Thorseth sailed through the Northwest Passage. He led an expedition that conquered the North Pole.

An adventure of an environmental trip was carried out first to New York, then on to the environmental conference city of Rio de Janeiro with the Viking ship replica "Gaia". Ragnar Thorseth marked the great emigration anniversary in 1975 by sailing the schooner "Cleng Peerson" from Norway to New York.

Ragnar Thorseth was a family man who, together with his wife and two sons, allowed himself to be frozen in Svalbard in the ship "Havella". And together with his wife Kari, he restored and ran the fishing village of Håholmen for many years.

Research theorists debated whether it was possible, but with the novel "Saga Siglar" Ragnar Thorseth showed in practice that Viking ships could cross the great oceans of the world. This is how he found his place among the pioneers. Ragnar Thorseth has certainly experienced and been met with distrust and criticism. He shares that fate with others who go their own way. But he has always been a realistic fantasist who, in the midst of all his dreams and desire for adventure, has kept his feet planted on the ground - or in the boat.
