Big game hunting in the Arctic Ocean 1859 – 1909

By Kjell G. Kjaer

Arctic hunting safari is about the first big game hunt in the highlands. The hunters were mainly adventurous and wealthy foreign aristocrats who hunted polar animals in Svalbard, Greenland and Novaya Zemlya. The book is based on the hunters' own accounts as they appear in letters, diaries and other unpublished and published sources.

The illustrations in Arctic hunting safari are unique. Several hunting teams brought along a photographer or illustrator to document hunting scenes, and the book contains a large number of historical images that uniquely document big game hunting in the northern regions from the latter half of the 1800th century.
