Boats with history
By Johan Ottesen
This book tells the story of 43 boats with a unique history. It covers both Arctic ships, fishing boats, liners and cargo ships. Many of the boats met a dramatic end – the vast majority sank. Some of them simply disappeared without anyone really knowing what happened. "Faustina" ushered in an era of Norwegian fishing off Greenland. German intelligence bought "Urd II" and transported Norwegian refugees to Shetland. The crews of the merchant ships "Godø" and "Giskø" met on the open sea after being torpedoed by German submarines. Local enthusiasts bought the liners "Laxen" and "Grei" and took up the fight against the established liner companies. The crew of "Idræt" was found on the open sea long after the ship was crushed in the ice. In this book you can read the exciting history of these and many other boats.
