Trapped in the polar ice – the dramatic story of DS "Remøy"
By Svend Otto Remøe, 2018.
Ålesund, February 1921. The fishing vessel DS "Remøy" sets sail for the Arctic Ocean. The crew knows that they are going on a dangerous voyage with many trials. It soon becomes clear that they are also facing completely different threats than they are prepared for. The fishing expedition in the Arctic Ocean would have fateful consequences, not only for the author's grandfather and the rest of the crew, but also for the powers that be in Lenin's Soviet Russia and the government back home in Norway. Trapped in the Polar Ice is a gripping tale of a dramatic historical event – and a tribute to the everyday weariness and daring that helped build modern Norway. The book provides close contact with a time of enormous upheaval that characterized the entire last century. Svend Otto Remøe works as a special advisor at the Research Council of Norway and has a background as a researcher. Trapped in the Polar Ice is based on the true story of the author's grandfather. This is his first book.
