Arctic people's experience.
The book about ice, icemen, storms and shipwrecks
By Johannes Bjarne Alme
First edition 2009
In this book, the dangers of the ice are the theme, and it is the trappers themselves who tell the story. The presentation is based on extensive and thorough work documenting the history of those who had the Arctic Ocean as a workplace from around 1900 until today. The author draws on his own knowledge of the subject, but equally central are the many personal testimonies from a number of former trappers. From different eras and sea areas, they give us insight into the drama and dangers that trapping could entail. Here are stories from Newfoundland, the Denmark Strait, the West Ice, the East Ice, the White Sea, the North Ice and the Svalbard area.
Nice copy, like new.
