Ålesund and Brandal were the dominant centres for the sealing industry in Sunnmøre. In the city, there was a stronger element of merchants on the owner side than in the Sunnmøre villages. In addition, businessmen from other parts of the country chose to station their ships in Ålesund. As a result, there were more Arctic ships in northern Sunnmøre than in southern Sunnmøre in the first decades. In "Ishavsskuter" we were given the history of 43 ships in southern Sunnmøre. In this book we get the history of the many ships that came to Ålesund and nearby villages in the pioneering years of Sunnmøre sealing. "Ishavsskuter II" discusses a total of 53 sealing ships from their launch until they went out of service. And most of the ships end their history with sinking in the fishing grounds.
