In 1898, three small Sunnmøre ships went seal hunting. This was to be the start of an industry that would become very important for southern Sunnmøre. Brandal became the dominant Arctic settlement, but many ships also came from Vartdal, Hjørungavåg, Tjørvåg and Remøya. The book "Ishavsskuter" (Icelandic Ships) discusses the seal hunting ships that left these settlements before 1920. At first, fishing boats were used for seal hunting. Later, a specially built ship was built that could penetrate further into the ice and better withstand the difficult conditions the sealers had to work under. This book discusses the history of 43 Arctic ships from "cradle to grave". It thus provides insight into the changes that have occurred in this industry, especially from the early pioneer days to the establishment of a large and modern fishing fleet. The book is 141 pages long and has over 100 boat photos. Published 1999
