By Sigmund Bøe

Sigmund Bøe had his first Arctic voyage with the "Aarvak" in 1936 and it is this voyage that the book begins with. Then you get to be with the "Vesterhavet" in 1937-38, with the "Arktos" in the dramatic crossing to Newfoundland in 1939, you get to be part of war sailing, on trial catches for seals in the Weddell Sea, on seal hunting in the Vesterice and Newfoundland, through dramatic days in the South Pole, how it was when the "Polarstar" was to be picked up from the shipyard and the further history of the ship, and the building and sailing of the newer and modern "Polarhav". Sigmund has put in a particularly impressive piece of work in two of the largest chapters in the book; on the history of Sunnmøre seal hunting and on navigation from ancient times to GPS.
