In the post-war period, optimism reigned again in the sealing industry. In the years around 1950, many large and modern sealing ships were built. In the peak year of 1952, a total of 81 boats were engaged in sealing. Later, it would steadily decline due to declining access to resources and opposition to sealing. Today, there are therefore only a few ships engaged in sealing. The Arctic ships were not only used for sealing, but also for fishing and expeditions to distant waters. In this book, we are presented with the history of each individual ship that came into existence after the war. The book also contains a presentation of the development of the sealing industry from 1945 onwards.
