| Additional information | "Artik" was fishing in Lake Kvitesjøen in 1928. The ship had developed a leak due to a screw in the ice. The current carried the ship between the ground ice, and there it lay in only 1,5 and 2 fathoms. The rudder was broken off and they lay like that for 8 days. With each change in the current the ice loosened a little, but it was impossible to get out. "Artik" became heavier and heavier in the sea even though the crew pumped hard. But they finally had to give up and the ship sank. |
